Mission Statement

Mission Statement

Goal Star Magazine

Goal Star must become the most admired football magazine for boys in the ages between 8-13. Goal Star must become their prime source for news, tricks, inspiration, aspiration and background stories on famous matches, clubs and superstars. Everything in Goal Star magazine rotates around football. It's written for those who live and breathe football by those that live and breathe football, of course with a particular eye to the characteristics of the young, boyish target group, where aspiring to become a superstar and identifying with a particular club are at the centerpiece of their lives. And where the journalism and language is not too complicated and mirror the minds of the boys that age. Goal Star provides in depth inside into the world of professional football. It inspires it's readers to become better at their game, both when they train and play, and when they discuss football with their friends. Goal Star provides access to learn more about their current idols and the next generation of idols. Goal Star is entertaining because everything is well written and laid out in an attractive fashion.

Even though Goal Star is designed to meet the needs of a young target audience, the more professional football media must recognize Goal Star as a honest, reliable, well-written, straight-forward, quality-driven magazine with a lay-out that is both appealing, easy-to-digest and innovative. Goal is a source that other established football media may refer to on occasion, and Goal is a partner sharing content with other premium football media.

Particularly the images brought in the magazine must stand-out in drama, honesty, intensity and picture quality. The most exciting of these, e.g. portraying stars of particular hype and importance, or high intensity scenes from recent matches, will be made available as posters inserted in the magazine.

Goal Star will be published monthly, both physically and in a tablet version, available via App Store. In the version of a physical magazine, Goal Star is A4 size, 44 pages and full color. The colors are bold and clear exactly as they are in the football business; Red, white, black, blue etc.

The advertising content is between 20% and 30%. In the tablet version, the content is slightly adjusted to fit the opportunities of the screen and the navigation.

Goal Star is available in news stands, on the internet and as subscription.

The cost pr. issue is 2.5 pounds sterling, regardless you get the physical magazine or the tablet version. It is published every second week; 26 issues annually. For subscribers, the cost is 36 pounds if you sign up for the whole year, equal to a 25% rebate. Subscribers will get full access to the tablet version without an extra fee. Subscribers are attracted through rebate coupons in other magazines and coupons that are handed out in the family sections of premier league stadiums nationwide. Target Audience Profile

Target audience profile.

Goal Star Magazine.

The reader of Goal Star Magazine is a boy age 8 – 13, living in mainland UK, with a keen interest on everything that has to do with football. Boys in their pre-teen and early teen years follow the crowd and have not yet developed into more sophisticated individuals, rather they are in the process of growing up and create their own character, individuality and identity.

Obviously, for the boys this age, playing is not only restricted to football, the boys simply play a lot and love physical activities, love being active, they love games in the school yard, rehearsing tricks at home, basically they love most sorts of sports. For many of them, football is not only their preferred sports, it’s also their preferred way of playing, interacting with each other, competing. Most of them love heroes of all sorts and dream to become a hero themselves one day. It would help put him at the centre of attention, make them famous and make everyone else aspire to become like him.

The boys typically belong to a peer group with very similar interests. They may have older brothers, fathers or other family members that equally are obsessed with football. Their approach to the sport is still playful, it may well be an activity they do in a club every once in a while, but mostly it’s an activity they just adore and do whenever they have a spare moment.

The boys live with their families, but most of them now have their own room at home. The walls are typically plastered with posters of football stars and pop stars.

They use their Playstation or xbox to play Fifa 14 or PES 14 a lot. They buy fans merchandise like cups, pencils, school bags, bed linen etc, and collect and wear shirts from their favourite clubs with names of their favourite players on their backs. Sometimes they go and watch the games live on match day, typically with an older family member. They collect football cards, and exchange them with one another to get the full collection.

They absorb everything that has to do with football on TV and on digital media like websites, fansites, youtube, facebook, apps etc. They tend to be particularly focused on the superstars and want to absorb everything about them be it gossip, girlfriends, childhood, upbringing, first professional years, former clubs etc. They also want to keep updated on all the equipment related to football, be it shoes, gloves etc.
