Target audience profile.
Goal Star Magazine.
The reader
of Goal Star Magazine is a boy age 8 – 13, living in mainland UK, with a keen
interest on everything that has to do with football. Boys in their pre-teen and
early teen years follow the crowd and have not yet developed into more
sophisticated individuals, rather they are in the process of growing up and
create their own character, individuality and identity.
Obviously, for
the boys this age, playing is not only restricted to football, the boys simply
play a lot and love physical activities, love being active, they love games in
the school yard, rehearsing tricks at home, basically they love most sorts of
sports. For many of them, football is not only their preferred sports, it’s
also their preferred way of playing, interacting with each other, competing. Most
of them love heroes of all sorts and dream to become a hero themselves one day.
It would help put him at the centre of attention, make them famous and make
everyone else aspire to become like him.
The boys
typically belong to a peer group with very similar interests. They may have
older brothers, fathers or other family members that equally are obsessed with
football. Their approach to the sport is still playful, it may well be an
activity they do in a club every once in a while, but mostly it’s an activity
they just adore and do whenever they have a spare moment.
The boys
live with their families, but most of them now have their own room at home. The
walls are typically plastered with posters of football stars and pop stars.
They use
their Playstation or xbox to play Fifa 14 or PES 14 a lot. They buy fans
merchandise like cups, pencils, school bags, bed linen etc, and collect and wear
shirts from their favourite clubs with names of their favourite players on
their backs. Sometimes they go and watch the games live on match day, typically
with an older family member. They collect football cards, and exchange them
with one another to get the full collection.
They absorb
everything that has to do with football on TV and on digital media like
websites, fansites, youtube, facebook, apps etc. They tend to be particularly
focused on the superstars and want to absorb everything about them be it
gossip, girlfriends, childhood, upbringing, first professional years, former
clubs etc. They also want to keep updated on all the equipment related to
football, be it shoes, gloves etc.
